On our last trip back to Ipoh three weeks ago, we went for lunch at a “dai chow” shop on Patrick Street near old town. It’s a place well-known among locals and it was our first time there. I was so impressed with the place. It has been there for more than 50 years and still going strong.
A big crowd was already there when we reached the place around 12 pm. The waiting for our food to arrive on the table took up almost an hour but it was well worth. The foods were delicious and the price reasonable.
I simply love the ambiance, it was as if we were traveling back to those days. Only an elderly cook does the cooking and he was helped by a few helpers, all in their twilight years too. Very sentimental, very traditional kind of eating experience. We will definitely be back to this shop on our next trip home.
It’s next to my primary school!
