Yesterday, my handsome and jovial Facebook buddy, a Peranakan guy by the name of Bert Tan, invited Marcus and me over to his restaurant which is situated along the Malacca River. Riverine serves Peranakan cuisine cook by Bert’s sister. A former Malacca Anglo Chinese School boy, Bert was the organizer of the Heritage Talk which was to be held at his outlet on the first floor. He asked me to give a talk on my book and sell my book at his premise. Thank you, Bert, for your kindness and generosity.
At this event, Madam Josephine Chua gave an interesting talk on the history of Bukit China. She had done a splendid job on enlightening us what our school’s history text books could not. After that, Mr Colin Goh, the master of ceremony for that night called me up to give a brief introduction on my book. This is the first time I was asked to speak in front of a crowd. Needless to say, I was quite nervous at first but very quickly, I came to enjoy it very much. It was a wonderful experience to be able to speak face to face with my readers and telling them what inspires me to write this book. I really appreciate their warm and thunderous applause.
After my introduction, the attendees began to throng at the table where my book were displayed and gave me a sounding support. They love heritage, no matter which place it is about. Now I have people so proud and passionate about Malacca reading my book on Ipoh too, isn’t this wonderful ?
All in, it was a fruitful and memorable trip!
Hi Frances Yip,
I am happy to support our local authors. I have yet to start reading your book as I am caught up with some visitors in Melaka.
The scenic night scene of the Melaka River is really COOL and ROMANTIC.
I suppose you could just write another book whilst you sit by the river.
Hi Charles,
Thank you for your wonderful support, it means a lot to a new writer like me. 🙂
Yes, it would be wonderful to write by the windy river bank. Why hadn’t I think of this before? Thanks again, for this beautiful idea.
I am really inspired with your writing skills as neatly as with the layout for your blog. Is that this a paid subject or did you modify it your self? Either way stay up the excellent high quality writing, it’s uncommon to see a great blog like this one nowadays..
