A bit of everything or a sort of potluck – that sums up “Poon Choy” which is a Hakka dish eaten during Chinese New Year. It is actually layers and layers of food piled up in a basin and eaten without rice. Yummy! I would like to wish all my readers and friends a prosperous new year 2015.
Poon Choy originated as a communal feast for the whole village. It was layered of different vegetables to match With specific meats and seafood before it is commercialised to all the meats and seafood is piled on top of veggies for display purposes. This practice has resulted in the loss of being to able to enjoy the opportunity to savour the matching of different veggies matching with different meats and seafood.
